Ready To Obtain A Brighter Smile?

How do you feel when you see your smile in the mirror? If your teeth are stained or discolored, there are solutions ranging from dental cosmetic procedures to at-home whitening treatments.

Dr. Wissam Ali and the team of oral healthcare professionals at NOVA Dental Anesthesia, located near you in Burke, Northern Virginia, want to educate their patients, current and new, on the ways to obtain and maintain a brighter smile.

How do We Brighten a Smile at Home?

NOVA Dental Anesthesia offers an at-home whitening system to remove discoloration and to maintain the whiter smile. Dr. Ali will need to take detailed impressions in order for custom-fit trays to be fabricated.

The patient will be sent home with the custom trays and a whitening agent. The trays will be filled with the gel and worn for 30-40 minutes every day. There will be noticeable results within the first week as the agent begins to break down the stains on the surface of the teeth. Depending upon the targeted shade of white, Dr. Ali will make the appropriate recommendation as to the frequency of use.

Masking Permanent Teeth Stains

There are two kinds of stains that cause discoloration. The most common is extrinsic discoloration forming on the surface of teeth. These stains are the result of consumed foods and beverages, or from smoking and the build-up of plaque.

The other type of stain is intrinsic forming below the enamel. Intrinsic discoloration is also known as permanent teeth stains because this type of stain typically does not respond to whitening procedures.

In order for patients with permanent teeth stains to achieve the whitest smile, Dr. Ali will recommend porcelain veneers, dental bonding, or a combination of these treatment options.

Keeping Your Smile Bright

Once the whitest smile is achieved, there is an incentive to maintain the look. The best way to keep a smile bright is effective oral hygiene. This means brushing with a fluoridated toothpaste at least twice each day, flossing at least once each day and maintaining regular dental check-ups.
